Today, Disney released an adjusted film release schedule, which included some sad news about the long-delayed “Black Widow”: it will now come out on May 7, 2021. The Scarlett Johansson film was originally slated to come out this past May, but was delayed until around Thanksgiving, then finally delayed again to next May.

This means that 2020 is the first year without any new Marvel Cinematic Universe movies since 2009, the year between the first two “Iron Man” films. This comes at an unfortunate time for Marvel, who was looking to ride the success of 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” which is now the highest grossing movie of all time.

“Black Widow” is not the only film affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This news comes as “The New Mutants,” the final X-Men movie made by 20th Century Fox before the Fox-Disney merger, is one of just a few new films currently in theaters. Additionally, Marvel’s “Eternals” has been delayed to November of next year, after originally being slated for next February.

Disney’s announcement did not only give information on Marvel films, however. Steven Spielberg‘s “West Side Story” remake has been delayed a year to December 2021. Additionally, “Death on the Nile,” the sequel to 2017’s star-studded “Murder on the Orient Express,” will now release on December 18 of this year, as opposed to its original October 23 date.
