With the news of Conan O’Brien leaving his TBS show in 2021 and launching a weekly HBO Max variety series, I’ve been watching a whole lotta classic Conan clips to remember and celebrate the comedian’s late-night career.
The shame is that as successful as O’Brien has been, his brief tenure at the pinnacle of late-night television, “The Tonight Show,” cast a shadow over his legacy and in my opinion left a number of emotional scars on the funnyman that will never entirely fade away.
In happier times, however, O’Brien was in the midst of living his lifelong dream of being the host of “The Tonight Show,” going out on location to entertain his fans. In this particular clip, he visits the Universal Studios Prop Department located inside the Edith Head Building on the Universal Studios lot in Universal City, California.
Per Beverly Hadley, Director of Property, Drapery, Sign Shop and Wood Moulding at NBC Universal Studios:
“The Property Department houses the largest and most diverse selection of props in the industry. We have three spacious showroom floors with one of the largest hand prop inventories, complete selections of furniture, household items, office and restaurant equipment, statues and more. Easy access on to the studio lot provides quick turnaround time for productions filming on or off the lot. The Property department also provides rentals for all types of special events.”
Not only is O’Brien in his element here, ad-libbing his way to non-stop laughs, but prop stores and prop warehouses are among my all-time FAVORITE places to explore. Check it out!
