Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made headlines recently for being cast in yet another DC property beyond “Black Adam.” He was also announced to be starring in “DC League of Super-Pets” as the voice of the Man of Steel’s dog, Krypto. He is also producing the film with his production company Seven Bucks.
“DC League of Super-Pets” may not be the most famous superhero property on the public’s radar, but it’s getting the feature treatment regardless. The animated film is set to focus on a team of superheroes’ pets who have to fight Earth’s battles while their owners are away on vacation.
The recently announced ensemble includes Keanu Reeves, Kevin Hart, John Krasinski Kate McKinnon, Vanessa Bayer, Diego Luna, and Natasha Lyonne. This star-studded voice cast should make “DC League of Super-Pets” one of the most highly anticipated animated films of the coming year.
The combination of action stars, comedic backgrounds and Saturday Night Live alums certainly hints to an action-comedy tone for the film. The script was written by Jared Stern who will be co-directing the film with Sam Levine for Warner Brothers. Stern was likely selected after his work in writing the hilarious animated superhero film, “The Lego Batman Movie.”
The film will reportedly follow the team composed of Krypto, Ace the Bat-Hound (to be voiced by Kevin Hart), Topo — Aquaman’s pet octopus, and several other four-legged heroes. It is set to release on May 20, 2022.
