The star of DC’s upcoming film “Black Adam,” Dwayne Johnson has announced that the film will release July 29, 2022.
The Rock himself took to Instagram to announce the new date in a short video. In the video, his narration can be heard echoing throughout Times Square. See his promo below!
“The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change,” Johnson ominously said in the clip. Black Adam is also known as Shazam’s greatest nemesis. While he is generally a villain, some have speculated that Johnson’s take will be that of an anti-hero. If all goes well, we will likely see him make an appearance with Shazam in one form or another.
The road has been long to get to a “Black Adam” solo film. Dwayne Johnson was originally cast as the character all the way back in 2014! Fans have been waiting ages to finally see this character brought to life.
Originally, Black Adam was supposed to appear in the first “Shazam!” movie. But instead, to give the “Shazam!” characters more room to grow, they decided against it. The characters will develop separately for a while, before confronting in an epic fashion.
Pierce Brosnan just joined the cast of “Black Adam” as Dr. Fate, a founding member of the Justice Society. The film now has the complete set of Justice Society members. Aldis Hodge will play Hawkman, Quintessa Swindel will play Cyclone, and Noah Centineo will play Atom Smasher.
According to Shazam himself, Zachary Levi, we will likely have to wait until “Shazam 3” before seeing these two classic foes go at it. It may be a while before that happens.
