‘Fear Street Part 2: 1978’ Gets Terrifying Trailer Days Ahead of its Release

Netflix is finally showing off a trailer for their newest film in the Fear Street trilogy just days before its release.

The new trailer shows off a handful of new and returning characters, and seems to add to the lore from the first film. “Fear Street Part 1: 1994” premiered just five days ago, on July 2nd, to mostly positive reviews. These films are part of the horror trilogy that Netflix is releasing over the course of the first three weeks of this July. They are based on the “Fear Street” novels by R. L. Stine (“Goosebumps”).

Netflix is billing the trilogy as “the movie event of the summer.” While they may not be the most anticipated films on everyone’s minds, three movies in three weeks certainly is one of the most ambitious projects by a major studio in recent memory — and from a streamer no less. What’s more interesting is that Netflix trusted all three projects with the relatively unknown director, Leigh Janiak (“Honeymoon”) … no pressure.

“Fear Street Part 1: 1994” featured a lot of horror references and 90s nostalgia, and “1978” looks to deliver the same promise in a different decade. The plot seems to pick up right where the first film left off, and should hopefully give satisfying answers to its many cliffhangers. The synopsis reads, “a summer of fun turns into a gruesome fight for survival as a killer terrorizes Camp Nightwing in the cursed town of Shadyside.”

With time travel, masked killers, summer camp, and squeezing every bit nostalgia out of beloved eras, Netflix is really trying to hit all the marks for a beloved horror series. Who cares if it’s derivative? You love nostalgia!
