Amazon Studios has just released the first trailer for one of their latest films, “Cinderella.” While the film maintains the simple title you’d recognize, it looks to be a bold adaptation of the source material. This iteration is a fresh musical with diverse casting and extravagant costume design.
The film stars Camila Cabello as the titular princess, with Nicholas Galitzine playing her Prince. The cast is rounded out by Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, Billy Porter and Pierce Brosnan. It is written and directed by Kay Cannon. Cannon wrote “Pitch Perfect,” which would make it seem that audiences are in for more humor than the typical fairytale flick.
The trailer reveals that this iteration will have a strong emphasis on Cinderella’s desire to be a fashion designer. The tone of the trailer seems like “Cruella” meets “In the Heights.” It also features Cabello’s impressive vocals.
This trailer drops just days ahead of the release of Amazon Studios’ other highly anticipated musical, “Annette.” That film will see a brief theatrical run before being released on Amazon Prime Video.
The trailer confirms “Cinderella” will be released September 3rd, 2021. However, it is unclear if “Cinderella” will receive any theatrical run.
