It’s-A Me, Christ Pratt! ‘Super Mario Bros’ Movie Finds Its Mario and More

Mamma Mia! Chris Pratt has been announced to play the Nintendo mascot in the upcoming “Super Mario Bros” animated film. His casting was announced during Nintendo Direct, an event mostly reserved for video game news. His casting has certainly shocked fans. Will he be doing a Mario impression or will he just be Chris Pratt?

Back in 2018, Nintendo announced that they would be teaming up with Illumination Entertainment to make an animated Super Mario Bros. movie. The last time the Italian plumber graced the big screen was in the live action 1993 adaptation. While a critical and commercial flop, the 1993 film has since gained a cult following. Still, fans have felt that a true adaptation has yet to be made.

It seems it’s time to give animation a chance in trying to successfully adapt the video game icon for the big screen. The cast is looking a bit more interesting this time around with many other A-listers joining Pratt. Charlie Day is set to voice Luigi and Anya Taylor-Joy will be taking on the role of Princess Peach.

The rest of the cast is even more wild with Jack Black voicing the King Koopa himself, Bowser, while Seth Rogen will be voicing Mario’s greatest frenemy Donkey Kong. Keegan-Michael Key will also be playing Toad, because why not.

The “Super Mario Bros.” movie is scheduled to be released in December of 2022.
