Hollywood royalty. That’s the only way to describe this classic photo of Judy Garland and Marlon Brando sitting together at the 1955 Golden Globes.
Garland would go on to win the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a comedy or musical on this night for her performance in “A Star is Born.” Quite fitting considering the 2018 remake starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper was itself a five-time nominee and won the award for Best Original Song.
Brando would make an even biggest splash on this consequential night. He’d go on to win the award for Best Actor in a drama for his performance in 1954’s “On the Waterfront.” Additionally, the film would win Best Motion Picture for a drama, Best Cinematography, and Best Directing.
Now all of this is good and fine and swell and all—deserving of a post here on Metaflix any day of the week—but the reason we decided to run it here and now is in celebration of Renee Zellweger recently winning both the Golden Globe and Oscar for her performance as Judy Garland in “Judy,” bringing everything full circle.
