Following a series of collaborations, Oscar-winning filmmaker David Fincher will be working exclusively with Netflix for the next four years. This comes during the middle of Netflix’s marketing push for “Mank,” Fincher’s latest film about “Citizen Kane” writer David Mankiewicz and his behind-the-scenes drama with director Orson Welles.

Fincher has a history of working with Netflix, especially on the television side. He was a showrunner and director on “House of Cards,” the political drama starring Kevin Spacey. In fact, the show was Netflix’s first ever original content, and the first web-only television show to receive major critical acclaim and awards.

Additionally, Fincher is an executive producer on the Netflix series “Mindhunter,” a psychological crime thriller starring Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv. He is also a showrunner on “Love, Death & Robots,” an experimental animation anthology showcasing numerous different animation studios’ work based around, well, love, death, and/or robots.

Currently, “Mindhunter” and “Love, Death & Robots” are both in a sort of limbo due to the pandemic. However, Netflix has announced a second “Robots” season. As of right now, it isn’t clear whether Fincher’s dealings with Netflix will be based in television, films, or a mix of both. However, with Fincher’s track record and early rave reviews for “Mank,” it seems like this deal is destined to produce some great content no matter the format.
