Lucas, Spielberg Top List of Richest Celebs
George Lucas and Steven Spielberg topped the list of Forbes magazine's third annual ranking of the wealthiest U.S. celebrities, which was released on Tuesday.
Lucas’ fortune is estimated to be in the vicinity of $5.4 billion, mostly derived from his $4.05 billion sale of the LucasFilm production company to Disney in 2012. Fellow filmmaker Steven Spielberg came in second with an estimated fortune of $3.7 billion. Spielberg's career as director, writer and producer spans more than 50 years and represent some of the most iconic film projects ever made, including ‘Jaws,’ ‘E.T.,’ ‘Indiana Jones,’ ‘Terminator,’ and ‘Schindler’s List.’
Rounding out the top five on the list is Oprah Winfrey with $2.8 billion, Michael Jordan with $1.7 billion, and rapper Jay-Z with $900 million.
The figures on the list are Forbes' estimates based on the celebrities' known holdings of real estate, art and shares of companies both public and private, as well as other assets and estimated lifetime earnings.
