Billy Zane to Play Marlon Brando in ‘Waltzing With Brando’
Billy Zane has been cast to play Marlon Brando in the upcoming indie film ‘Waltzing With Brando.’ In addition to being one of the most iconic actors in film history, Brando is also known for being one of Hollywood's most enigmatic and controversial figures.
Brando first rose to prominence on the New York theater stage utilizing the now-famous Stanislavski system, widely considered the basis for what is currently known as “method acting.” He then transitioned to film, receiving an Academy Award nomination for his role in 1951’s ‘A Streetcar Named Desire.’ Brando went on to win two Oscars for Best Actor for his performances in 1954’s ‘On the Waterfront’ and 1972’s ‘The Godfather.’
Billy Zane will take on the formidable task of embodying Brando during one of the more intriguing periods in the late actor's life. ‘Waltzing With Brando’ is set in the early 1970’s when the actor befriended an architect named Bernard Judge. Judge later went on to write a memoir detailing his relationship with Brando. The film will cover the plan by Brando and Judge to build the world's first ecologically-minded retreat on a tiny Tahitian island.
Bill Fishman is set to write and direct the movie, which is expected to enter into production later this year.
