SXSW Film Festival Headliners Announced
South by Southwest has announced the first wave of films to be screened at the upcoming 9-day Austin-based film festival.
Some of the more highly anticipated titles include a yet-to-be-named comedy directed by Jonathan Levine starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron, ‘The Beach Bum’ directed by Harmony Korine starring Matthew McConaughey, and ‘The Highwaymen,’ starring Kevin Costner, Woody Harrelson, and Kathy Bates. Olivia Wilde is also set to make her directorial debut with ‘Booksmart.’
The above films represent the featured headliners at the festival, joining Jordan Peele’s horror thriller ‘Us,’ which will act as the opening night film.
A total of 2,351 feature length films were submitted for the competition. “As we head into our 26th edition, we couldn’t be more excited to once again share a completely fresh SXSW 2019 slate with our uniquely smart and enthusiastic SXSW audience,” said Janet Pierson, Director of Film. “As always, we looked for a wide range of work, contemplating scale, style, tenor and tone. We hope that this year’s outstanding array of films from accomplished to emerging talent will entertain, surprise, and provoke.”
Additional films scheduled to screen at the festival will be announced at a later date. The SXSW Film Festival runs from March 8-16.
