Peter Jackson’s WWI Documentary 'They Shall Not Grow Old' Expanding to 500 Theaters
Peter Jackson’s ‘They Shall Not Grow Old’ is coming back to theaters in a big way. The breakout documentary will be screened at 500 theaters beginning February 1.
The documentary originally screened in select theaters late last year as part of a special Fathom Events presentation. It proceeded to become the highest grossing release in the company’s history, making over $8 million. That was more than convincing enough to give the film a full run in over 150 markets nationwide in order to capitalize on the fervent interest in the film, which utilizes cutting edge tech to restore life to century-old war footage.
Jackson worked on the film as a side project while directing the Hobbit franchise and later producing ‘Mortal Engines.’ It utilizes cutting edge technology in the realms of 3D, colorization, and audio recreation, resulting in a film that transports audiences directly into the hellish trenches of World War I.
