Kevin Smith Confirms ‘Jay and Silent Bob’ Reboot
Smith first announced the project in August 2017. On January 1st, he followed up with a tweet: “Spent the first day of 2019 having a #JayAndSilentBobReboot pre-pre-production meeting.”
Smith and Mewes made their film debut in the 1994 comedy ‘Clerks.’ Smith famously wrote, directed, co-produced, and acted in the movie, funding the project with savings, credit card debt, and selling his comic book collection.
Smith’s subsequent films often featured Jay and Silent Bob and were mostly set in his home state of New Jersey, including ‘Mallrats,’ ‘Clerks 2,‘ ‘Chasing Amy,’ and ‘Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back,’ the final film in which the characters appeared.
However, more recent films of his have fared poorly at the box office and production funding has been harder to acquire. Additionally, the long-rumored production of Clerks 3 fell through just last year, so while any other View Askew project would be welcomed, fans of the filmmaker shouldn’t hold their breath.
