Netflix Has More Certified Fresh Movies Than Amazon, Hulu, and HBO Combined

Netflix Has More Certified Fresh Movies Than Amazon, Hulu, and HBO Combined

According to a new analysis by our friends at Streaming Observer, Netflix has significantly more movies in their catalog considered “Certified Fresh” than any other streaming service.

What’s more, this metric emphasizes the quality over quantity approach taken by Netflix considering the fact that its next nearest rival, Amazon Prime, has more than four times as many titles in their vast catalog:

However, the figures are slightly skewed by the fact that older films often don’t have enough reviews to meet the necessary qualifications to be deemed “Certified Fresh,” and Amazon would likely (if only nominally) close the gap if this metric were fully fleshed out. Regardless, there’s still enough usable data available to draw certain conclusions … and Netflix being quite far ahead of their competitors in terms of highly rated movies is certainly one of them.

In fact, when you look at it in terms of what percent of each movie library is made up of Certified Fresh, not only does Netflix completely dominate, but Amazon Prime falls in dead last.

Netflix – 3,839 movies total, 596 of which are Certified Fresh (15.5%)

Hulu: 2,336 movies total, 223 of which are Certified Fresh (9.6%)

HBO Now: 815 movies total, 38 of which are Certified Fresh (4.7%)

Amazon Prime – 17,461 movies total, 232 of which are Certified Fresh (1.3%)
