‘Alita: Battle Angel’ Tracking to Be Massive $200 Million Box Office Flop for 20th Century Fox
Well, this is unexpected. For years, ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ has been one of the most hyped movie properties under development. It has long been a passion project for James Cameron, going all the way back to 2003.
Yet the box office results are landing with a big ol’ thud. As reported by The Wrap, box office experts say ‘Alita’ will post a five-day opening of around $25 million. It is expected to max out at the U.S. box office with $45-50 million. Considering the production budget between $150 and $200 million—and that marketing costs will add another third or so to the overall cost of bringing the film to market—‘Alita’ is tracking to be a $200 million albatross around 20th Century Fox’s neck.
The film looks gorgeous and has a compelling storyline, but so far reviews have been mixed. For anyone on the fence, be sure to check out this behind-the-scenes-look at the film below.
