FX Acquires 'Bohemian Rhapsody,' 'Spiderman,' 'Venom,' 'Green Book,' and More Movies
Looks like FX Network is busting out the check book for the hottest film titles of the year.
In addition to the above-name titles, the list of recent acquisitions also includes ‘Halloween,’ ‘Bumblebee,’ ‘Night School,’ ‘The First Purge,’ ‘Peter Rabbit,’ ‘First Man,’ ‘BlacKkKlansman,’ ‘Book Club,’ ‘The Meg,’ ‘Breaking In,’ ‘The House with a Clock In Its Walls,’ ‘Instant Family,’ ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado,’ ‘The Predator’ and ‘Widows.’
Several years ago, the network pivoted away from off-network series, opting instead to spend the bulk of its acquisition budget on theatrical films. The movie deals also include streaming rights to make the films available on the network’s digital platforms. The move makes financial sense, too, since movies tend to significantly outperform off-network series on basic cable and have longer shelf lives while delivering a wider range of audiences that tend to tune it.
