There was a brief period of time between the fall of Blockbuster and the rise of streaming when Redbox was a movie lover’s best friend.
The grocery store terminals offered a relatively wide selection of films across all genres. They even stocked blockbusters soon after their theatrical run. But in the end, they represented a miniature version of Blockbuster in which rental fees still had to paid and the DVD had to be swiftly returned (within 24 hours, even) before facing additional charges.
