Metaflix's YouTube Channel Celebrates 1 Million Views
Reflecting on the journey Metaflix has taken thus far feels rather dichotomous.
On the one hand, we launched our YouTube channel quite a while ago, on November 29, 2016. Since then we’ve spent thousands of hours doing research, writing scripts, recording audio, editing video, and promoting our work everywhere imaginable.
On the other hand, it feels like the Metaflix journey has really just begun. Our website, Metaflix.com, just launched this past December and there are still DOZENS of tasks that remain on our action plan as we continue to work towards building Metaflix into a fully-fledged media company.
As part of this post, we wanted to revisit some of our earliest work, including the very first video we posted to our channel. It was a film review of Kenneth Lonergan’s ‘Manchester by the Sea’ starring Casey Affleck. Turns out, we forgot that we deleted it! Not because the production quality was terrible or anything—it most certainly was—but because the video was so laden with copyright claims that we didn’t want it to potentially harm our channel (we’ll save our ranting and raving about YouTube’s frequently-abused copyright system for later).
The best part of the video was us going out on a limb proclaiming that Casey Afflect most certainly WOULD NOT win the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance. Spoiler alert: he did!
Since then, the production quality of our videos has steadily improved and we’ve gotten a bit craftier in avoiding spurious copyright claims. Beyond that, none of our modest accomplishments or success would mean anything if it weren’t for you, our fans, supporters, and subscribers.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It makes every ounce of effort we’ve poured into this passion project feel infinitely worthwhile. And if any of you wish to join us on a walk down memory lane, we’ve included a selection of our favorite videos below. Much love … and as always, we’ll see you at the movies.
