First Critics’ Poll Naming Best Films of the Decade Released & We Have Major Problems With the Results

World of Reel decided to jump the gun and poll some 250 critics, programmers, academics, and distributors regarding the best movies of the past decade even though it’s early in the year and we’ve got major problems with the results.

First and foremost, George Miller’s ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ topped the list, which we find supremely disagreeable. Despite winning six Oscars and scoring major nominations for Best Picture and Best Director, we still contend that ‘Fury Road’ is not only a lousy film, but an insult to the original trilogy.

Furthermore, Terrence Malick’s ‘The Tree of Life’ came in second place. Really? We’ve read the working script for the film. Want to know what it says? This:

Just get a bunch of footage of Brad Pitt during “golden hour” and we’ll make a two-and-a-half hour movie out of it.

The remaining entries improve a little but there are still some clear-cut entries that are undeserving of being included in such an exalted list, such as ‘Phantom Thread,’ ‘Under the Skin,’ and ‘Call Me By Your Name,’ which BARELY CRACKED MOST TOP TEN LISTS FROM JUST LAST YEAR!!!

So the lesson here, folks, is this: never put too much stock into critics’ picks. Everybody has their own tastes and opinions. Simply see as many movies as you can and decide for yourself which ones are worth the price of admission.
