What Happens When a Movie Has No Gaffer? | Reverse Film School
Ever sit around after the conclusion of a movie watching the end credits and wonder what a “gaffer” does?
In film and television crews, the gaffer is the head electrician, responsible for the execution (and sometimes the design) of the lighting plan for a production. The term "gaffer" originally related to the moving of overhead equipment to control lighting levels using a gaff. The gaffer's assistant is the best boy electric.
How important is the gaffer to a production? MASSIVELY important. Check out this video by Vanity Fair to see why.
