Modern Movie Posters Kinda Suck
Over the past decade or so an entire industry has developed around the creation of movie trailers. They are no longer simply created by studios cobbling together a few select clips that are laid over a backing track. Instead, modern trailers are often outsourced to a third-party outfit that specializes in the craft who then infuse a massive amount of production into the mix, taking upwards of a year to deliver the final product.
But what about movie posters? Unfortunately, it seems like most posters these days are handled more like an afterthought than a standalone piece of art.
Far too often they feature a few floating heads with some background fodder in what looks like intern-level Photoshop. It’s boring, lazy, and quite deflating, really. Sort of like a visual representation of the sad trombone sound effect.
But as The Royal Ocean Film Society points out, a handful of truly creative, innovative, and unique posters have indeed been produced over the past few years and we enthusiastically agree with their carefully curated selection. Check out the video below!
