Standing Ovation at TIFF for Renee Zellweger's 'Judy' Performance Leaves Her in Tears
Talk about a curtain call: Renee Zellweger received such rapturous applause for her performance in ‘Judy,’ the movie adaptation of Peter Quilter’s musical ‘End of the Rainbow,’ that she was literally moved to tears—and critics have been buzzing with Oscar talk as a result of the emotionally charged screening.
Zellweger plays iconic actress and singer Judy Garland during the final months of her life as she is forced to put on a five-week, sold-out concert run at London’s Talk of the Town. Zellweger absolutely embodies the part, channeling the nuance and wisdom and pain of the famed performer.
Buzzfeed senior film reporter Adam B. Vary wrote that Zellweger is “stunning, stunning, stunning” as Garland. “I’m a wreck,” he added. “She is incredible. No hyperbole is possible.”
‘Judy’ opens in theaters 27.
