Jeff Bridges Announces That He’s Been Diagnosed With Lymphoma

The actor says he is being treated and the prognosis is good.

On Monday evening, Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges announced via Twitter that he’s been diagnosed with lymphoma, a rare cancer of the lymphatic system. 

Most well known for his role as the stoner “Dude” in the Coen brothers’ cult classic “The Big Lebowski,” Bridges referenced his iconic role in the twitter post writing: “As the Dude would say.. New S**T has come to light.” Bridges ends the post by promising to keep his followers updated on his recovery.

Jeff Bridges is an acclaimed actor and has been nominated for seven Academy Awards throughout his acting career. In 2010, he won an Oscar for best Actor in a leading Role for his portrayal of a former country music star battling with alcoholism in “Crazy Heart.” 

Currently Bridges is working on the upcoming FX on Hulu show The Old Man.” This project will be Bridges first return to series television after 50 years. Bridges is the star and executive producer for the series, which recently resumed filming after production was shut down in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

Following Bridges’ twitter announcement, the studios behind the series FX, Hulu, Touchstone Television, and FXP issued a statement to the media regarding the news:

“Our thoughts go out to Jeff and his family during this challenging time and they have our love and support. We wish him a safe and full recovery. And, as Jeff always says, ‘We are all in this together.’ Jeff, we are all in this together with you.”

In a follow-up tweet, Bridges expressed his gratitude to the outpour of support and ended the tweet by shifting the attention away from his health to urged his followers to go vote.
