Patrick Wilson To Make Directorial Debut With ‘Insidious 5’

Wilson will make his debut behind the camera.

Blumhouse announced on social media that actor Patrick Wilson is returning to his long term role in the Insidious franchise. Patrick Wilson has earned himself a reputation as a “scream king,” starring in other popular horror franchises like New Line Cinema’s Conjuring movies as paranormal investigator Ed Warren. This time around, Wilson will also be moving forward as director with the fifth Insidious movie being the first project he will try his hand in.

In addition to Wilson reprising his role as Josh Lambert, he will be joined by Ty Simpkins who will return as Dalton Lambert. The fifth film in the horror franchise will pick up a decade after the events of 2018’s “Insidious: The Last Key” as the Lambert’s son, Dalton, heads to college.

The “Insidious” franchise began in 2010 and has gone on to make three sequels since. The franchise’s first two films, “Insidious” (2010) and “Insidious: Chapter 2” (2013), are centered around a young couple whose son becomes a vessel for entities from another dimension. “Insidious: Chapter 3” (2015) takes place 7 years prior to the events of the first series and “Insidious: The Last Key” (2018) is a follow-up to the prequel.

The script is written by Scott Teems, who worked from a story from Insidious’ co-creator Leigh Whannell. With Jason Blum producing the film for Blumhouse along with franchise creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell, as well as Oren Peli. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Steven Schneider will executive produce.

Patrick Wilson spoke on the announcement saying: “I’m honored and thrilled to be at the helm of the next Insidious installment, which will provide an amazing chance to unpack everything the Lamberts went through a decade ago, as well as deal with the consequences of their choices. Directing the movie is both professionally and personally a full circle moment for me, and I am extremely grateful to be entrusted in continuing to tell this frightening and haunting story. Into the further we go …”
