Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci Working on a Model for ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’

It is with a sad heart but warm feelings that this photo be featured today.

Film, television, and science lovers of all stripes are mourning the loss of Grant Imahara, who passed away suddenly Monday from a brain aneurysm. He was 49.

Imahara had such a broad fan base as a result of his wide-ranging and always fascinating career. In the early 2000’s he competed on the television show Battlebots with his robot Deadblow, later returning as a judge. For years he worked as an engineer at Lucasfilm’s THX and ILM divisions. Afterwards, he followed his friend and co-worker Tory Belleci to Mythbusters, serving as a co-host of the wildly popular science program until a format change in 2014.

Along the way, Imahara’s effusive intellect and enthusiasm inspired countless fans to become active in the science community themselves, often choosing to become STEM majors or professionals in the field.

So it is with a sad heart but warm feelings that this photo be featured today. Imahara’s life was unexpectedly cut short, but may we all venture to live our own lives half as wondrously as he did.
