Ryan Gosling will star as Paul Cole in “The Actor,” with Duke Johnson directing. Johnson adapted the script from the novel “Memory,” by Donald E. Westlake. Gosling will also serve as a producer on the film alongside Johnson and Abigail Spencer.
According to Deadline, Gosling’s character is a New York actor who’s “beaten and left for dead in 1950s Ohio. Stripped of his memory and stranded in a mysterious small town, Paul struggles to get back home, piece together and reclaim the life and identity he’s lost.”
Along Cole’s journey home he finds love as well as himself. “The Actor” has potential to be similar to “Drive,” a character study that Gosling thrived in.
Gosling has been a very hot commodity lately. He will star in “The Grey Man” alongside Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. The Russo Brothers will direct the Netflix film with a budget of $200 million.
Gosling’s previous work includes multiple critically acclaimed roles. “Blue Valentine,” “La La Land” and “Blade Runner 2049” are some his standouts. While, Gosling’s portrayal of Neil Armstrong in 2018’s “First Man” marks his last big screen appearance.
