The horror film “Orphan,” which contained one of the most bizarre twist endings in horror cinema, is coming back for a prequel.
The original film was released in 2009 starring Isabelle Fuhrman as the mysterious 9-year-old orphan who is adopted by a couple after the death of their unborn child. 11 years after the first film’s release, Fuhrman is making her return as Esther, the childish looking orphan who turns out to be a murderous 33-year-old woman named Leena Klammer. However, while her character might not seem to age, Fuhrman is now 23-years-old which brings up the question of how she will be able to convincingly portray Esther/Leena.
Deadline explains: “In order to help Fuhrman bring her character to life again, filmmakers are utilizing a combination of forced perspective shooting and a world-class makeup team.”
In the prequel, “Orphan: First Kill,” “Leena Klammer orchestrates a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility and travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family. But Leena’s new life as “Esther” comes with an unexpected wrinkle and pits her against a mother who will protect her family at any cost.”
“10 Things I Hate About You” star Julia Stiles is also set to join her as part of the cast with a script written by David Coggeshall and William Brent Bell (“The Boy” franchise) directing the prequel.
