Television’s most famous cat and mouse duo have been renewed in a new feature film set to premiere in 2021. The age old frenemies will star in “Tom and Jerry,” a hybrid live-action and animated film. Warner Bros. Pictures recently unveiled a trailer for the upcoming film, where the two beloved vintage characters are taking their antics to New York City.
Written by Kevin Costello and based on Joseph Barbera and William Hanna’s classic characters, “Tom and Jerry” will feature the titular characters animated in similar styles as the original television show. However, the new film differs from the traditional animation genre by featuring live actors such as Michael Pena, Colin Jost, Ken Jeong, Rob Delaney and Pallavi Sharda and a real world set.
Frank Welker voices the titular pair while Chloë Grace Moretz stars as an event planner hired by a hotel to organize a wedding but also to evict a pesky Jerry who has taken up residence within the building’s walls. Tom is enlisted to help remove Jerry from the premises before the date of the wedding arrives and their classic cat and mouse chases ensue. The turning point comes when the two enemies must learn to collaborate with Moretz’s character, as they realize someone on the hotel’s staff is actively working against all three of them.
