Hulu is quickly becoming one of the best streaming services. Heck, maybe they already are. Apart from the all the amazing cable TV shows that air next day on Hulu, their movie catalog can rival anyones. From cinematic masterpieces like “Parasite,” to one of the most fun movies of last year in “Palm Springs.” Hulu is home to an endless array of quality movies. So, here’s a list of 5 great movies now streaming on Hulu to get you started.

Booksmart

“Booksmart” is one of the best coming of age teen comedies from the 2010s. Olivia Wilde‘s debut film proved she is just as talented behind the camera as she is in front of it. Stars Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever play off of each other’s energy incredibly well.

12 Years a Slave

Steve McQueen‘s 2013 film “12 Years a Slave” tells the true story of Solomon Northup, a free black man who is kidnapped, sold into slavery and his journey towards freedom. The film went on to win Best Picture at the 86th Academy Awards. Additionally, Lupita Nyong’o won Best Supporting Actress that same night. “12 Years a Slave” is one of many fantastic films by Steve McQueen. Also be sure to check out “Shame” and “Widows.”

Hell or High Water

From visionary screenwriter Taylor Sheridan comes “Hell or High Water,” the story of two brothers who result to robbing banks to save their family ranch. The film features phenomenal performances by Chris Pine, Jeff Bridges, and Ben Foster. Although it got some love from the Oscars in 2016, this film is severely underrated.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire

“Portrait of a Lady on Fire” was the last film I saw in theaters. The attention to detail and sensory images in this film are unmatched. At one point I thought I could literally smell the paint during the portraiture scenes. “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” tells the story of a painter and young aristocrat who fall in love while on a remote island together.

Boogie Nights

Boogie Nights” is the film that put Paul Thomas Anderson on the map. His sophomore film proved that he was the hottest up and coming director of late 1990s. Similarly, Mark Wahlberg’s performance as Dirk Diggler catapulted him into Hollywood stardom. Supporting cast members Julianne Moore and Burt Reynolds picked up Oscar nominations for their roles in the film, marking the beginning of PTA’s reputation as an actor’s director.
