The sub-genre of Disney movies based on theme park rides seems to be having a resurgence as of late. With the release of “Jungle Cruise” and of course talks of continuing “Pirates of the Caribbean,” it seems we are in for a lot more of these types of movies. One past film of this nature that never quite caught on was “The Haunted Mansion.”
Not even Eddie Murphy could save it way back when, so here’s hoping Danny DeVito can do it for the House of Mouse. The “Always Sunny In Philadelphia” actor has been added to the already A-list cast for the reboot of the, well, it was never a franchise, but Disney sure hopes “Haunted House” will become one.
I mean, they have to be trying for a franchise with a cast and crew this star studded. Back in April, Disney announced the project along with a slate of talent behind it. “Dear White People” director Justin Simien signed on to work from a script penned by Katie Dippold of “Parks and Rec” and “Ghostbusters’ reboot fame. The cast is full of an impressive array of talent with Tiffany Haddish, LaKeith Stansfield, Owen Wilson, and Rosario Dawson signing on to star.
Danny DeVito will be another face to look for in the mansion. He won’t be a ghost though. No, Danny DeVito will be taking on the role of a smug professor. If I were to guess he’s really obnoxious about how he doesn’t believe in ghosts. There’s always at least one of those guys in a haunted house movie. The new film has only just started shooting, so we have no word on a release date as of yet, but sometime late next year seems to be the safest guess on when we get to see this illustrious cast spook it up on the big screen.
