It’s been a messy road to “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” but it just got a little clearer. James Gunn, the director of the first two Guardians flicks, confirmed on Twitter that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” will start filming later this year.
Gunn was famously fired by Disney in 2018 only to be rehired in 2019 after cast members protested. However, while he was temporarily canned from making Marvel films, Warner Bros. scooped him up to direct a DC film. As a result, Gunn wrote and directed the upcoming “The Suicide Squad” film, which released a stellar trailer recently.
Since Gunn had to fit “The Suicide Squad” into his schedule before he could start working on “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” we expected a delay. That delay was pushed back even further by the pandemic, however, things seem to finally be falling back into place. Gunn tweeted out the exciting news earlier.
Gunn will film “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” simultaneously. “Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” will be a prequel to the third Guardians film and will stream on Disney+ in December 2022. The Guardians are also set to make an appearance in “Thor: Love and Thunder” in 2022.
