Jessica Chastain recently opened up about the tumultuous experience it was to become Tammy Faye every day before filming “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” The upcoming film from director Michael Showalter stars Chastain alongside Andrew Garfield.
In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Chastain elaborated on the strenuous process of getting her makeup done for the character of Faye. She revealed, “I think for sure I’ve done some permanent damage to my skin on this.”
She went on to explain, “When you’re wearing it all day every day — the weight of it on your body, it stretches your skin out.” Not only did she have to wear the makeup for the duration of shooting, but it took anywhere from four to seven hours to be applied.
Despite the seemingly nightmarish experience that this daily extreme makeover turned out to be, Chastain doesn’t seem to have any regrets. She explained that while the process was difficult and physically taxing, at the end of the day, “it’s for my art.” This is an expectedly noble sentiment from an actress that has earned a name for herself in Hollywood for her dedication to her craft.
“The Eyes of Tammy Faye” follows the rise of the infamous Tammy Faye and her husband from humble beginnings to creating the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park. It then examines her downfall into moral and financial corruption.
“The Eyes of Tammy Faye” is set to release September 17th, 2021. You can check out the trailer below.
