An exclusive image, provided by PEOPLE Magazine, shows stars Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield in a new biopic about the fallen televangelist, Tammy Faye Bakker, titled “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
While the last thing I want is to be forever memed online, I have to say they look kind of “unrecognizable.” Garfield’s character runs parallel to Leonardo DiCaprio in “Killers of the Flower Moon,” older yet recognizable.
One can’t say the same about Chastain, who played Murph in “Interstellar.” Her features and skin tone are different, and so is her hair. To be honest, I had to Google her to make sure she was the same person because she was genuinely unrecognizable to me.
Chastain is very committed to the role, going beyond makeup and costume design to deliver a promising performance. According to PEOPLE Magazine, Chastain watched hours’ worth of documentary footage about Bakker’s life, studying her mannerisms and diving into her psyche.
“I just was so blown away by her and her story,” Chastain told PEOPLE. “The thing I loved the most about Tammy is her capacity to love. She knew what it felt like not to feel important, and she didn’t want anyone to experience that.”
Garfield, who’ll play Bakker’s first husband, said he sympathized with Chastain’s character, as Bakker’s story is one of hardship, loss and blame — as she was constantly “being turned into a clown” and “punished for the mistakes of her husband.”
