The widely anticipated Marvel’s Avengers Campus, a theme park at California Adventure, will open on June 4, 2021.
While the Avengers portion won’t open till then, California Adventure and next-door Disneyland will open on April 30 at limited capacity. The Avengers have been popping up around the park already, but this campus will mark the biggest Avengers attraction yet. Disney has been developing the Avengers Campus for years now. The park was originally supposed to open summer 2020, but had to be delayed.
Check out the video Disney posted to Twitter, which gives a brief visualization of the upcoming park. In a blog, Disney execs said, “Avengers Campus is comprised of several heroic locations, each hosted by a different Avenger to share their unique powers, technology and knowledge with recruits.”
The theme park will likely feature tons of Marvel easter eggs, and the video teased a ride called Web-Slingers, a Spider-Man ride. Tom Holland has lent his own voice to the attraction. The park will also include a “Doctor Strange section and various Marvel character interactions. A “Guardians of the Galaxy” ride will also appear; however, it had already opened in 2017.
Disney has, of course, already had success in mining properties for theme park attractions. The “Star Wars” park, Galaxy’s Edge in Orlando, is already hugely popular.
In fact, in 2019, Disney’s parks, experiences, and consumer products portion was their fastest-growing profit driver. With 2020 shuttering Disney’s amusement parks, they seem to be hoping for a big reopening to drive up profits.
However, it’s unclear how many people are going to attend the parks right away. While many are likely itching to get back to high adrenaline, high crowd areas, others may not be so eager. Still, with vaccines and reopening measures, Disney will likely attract some sort of crowd.
It’s still unknown how long it will take to get back to full capacity, and how long it will take to convince enough people to return.
