A few weeks ago, during Disney’s Investor Day, the company announced that there will be a sequel to the hit film “Enchanted” coming to Disney+. The sequel titled “Disenchanted,” has recently confirmed Amy Adams to return to her role as Princess Giselle.
Now, fans have a new surprise coming their way as Patrick Dempsey will also reprise his role as Robert Phillip for the upcoming sequel. Though no casting has been confirmed, there are also reports that the character of Morgan, Robert’s daughter, will be returning as well. In addition, Disenchanted will reportedly feature a brand-new villain with the studio looking for an actress to play the new role in the film.
Also connected to the film is writer Brigette Hales, alongside director Adam Shankman of “Hairspray.” Hales previously has worked on “Once Upon a Time” for ABC and the Stephen King miniseries “11.22.63.” Other writers include Richard Lagravenese (“P. S. I Love You”), Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber (“500 Days of Summer”).
Released back in 2007, “Enchanted” is both an homage and parody of Disney’s princess animated features. The story of the film begins with Princess Giselle being banished from her kingdom by her lover’s evil stepmother and is transported into real-world New York City. There, she meets a cynical divorce lawyer, Robert, and must navigate her way through the harsh reality of the real world in order to find a way home.
Details about the setting of the upcoming film have not yet been released, but a brief synopsis on IMDb reads: “Ten years after her happily ever after, Giselle questions her happiness, inadvertently turning the lives of those in the real world and Andalasia upside down in the process.”
