Production on Taika Waititi‘s “Thor: Love and Thunder” is in full swing. The fourth installment in the Thor series has already made big news for its stacked cast. However, recent set photos from Daily Mail reveal even more casting details.
When we last wrote about the “Love and Thunder” cast, we put down Matt Damon‘s appearance in the film as a ‘wildcard.’ Damon had previously appeared in “Thor: Ragnarok” as an Asgardian actor who played Loki. But, when he was recasted in Thor 4, Marvel and Waititi kept his role under wraps. However, recent set photos confirm that Damon will in fact be reprising his role as the Asgardian actor.
Additional photos also reveal Melissa McCarthy’s role in the upcoming film. McCarthy sent Waititi an audition tape via Instagram last December and it actually worked. She can be seen dressed as a Fake Hela while on the “Love and Thunder” set.
It is still unclear exactly how the two actors’ roles will play out in the film. But, given Damon’s role in “Ragnarok” it is safe to assume that “Love and Thunder” will feature another satirical Asgardian play.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” will be part of the MCU’s Phase 4 and will hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
