Does a perfect movie exist? Perhaps. You may have that one flick that is the best thing you have ever experienced and nothing could ever top it. That’s your perfect movie and I’m totally on board with that.
For me, it’s “The Shawshank Redemption.” I know it’s highly ranked and perhaps overexposed since it plays on television all the time, but my experience with the film runs deep. I’ve seen it dozens of times both in personal and academic settings and at no point in time has it ever lost one iota of its luster. I find the story, acting, cinematography, score, set design and every other facet of “The Shawshank Redemption” as simply being better than anything else I’ve ever watched, so in my opinion that amounts to perfection.
However, according to the folks at Metacritic, there are eight films that have achieved the mythical 100% Metascore.
I rattled off a handful of contenders in my head before seeing the titles and was able to guess a few. But as you might expect I don’t entirely agree with the full list … particularly with the inclusion of Richard Linklater’s contribution. It’s a fine film but perfection it is not.
I’m sure by now you’re dying to know the eight films on the list so scroll down to see the goods. Or if you prefer to soak them in visually, be sure to watch the video above.
