DC has just revealed that they are developing a spin-off for their well-received superhero flick, “Birds of Prey And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.” The film, currently labeled “Black Canary,” will focus on the aforementioned character from the original.
Jurnee Smollett will be reprising her role as the titular character of the film. Misha Green, the creator of “Lovecraft Country,” will be penning the script. Sue Kroll is producing the film.
Plot details are being kept tightly under wraps for now. It is definitely possible that characters like Harley Quinn or the Huntress are in the cards to reprise their roles or at least make a cameo of some sort.
The film is being produced exclusively for HBO Max. This follows the trend of the recently announced films “Blue Beetle” and “Batgirl” — both of which just cast their respective heroes.
There is no details as to when the film may release. If you want to see Black Canary in action, you can check out “Birds of Prey” or the TV series “Arrow,” where a different iteration of the character played a major role.
