ViacomCBS is buckling down on its horse in the streaming wars. While Paramount Plus has not had the most expansive library of the many streaming platforms out there, it has still had loyal subscribers. Since CBS All Access’ rebranding as Paramount Plus, the platform has experienced the most growth of any streaming platform. It has reached 36 million subscribers and exceeded Wall Street’s earnings expectations.
These numbers are impressive, given that Paramount Plus currently only has 300 movie titles, according to ViacomCBS’ website. This pales in comparison to services like Netflix that have been on the block for years and have ten times the movie selection. However, this is all about change.
With the announcement of Paramount Plus adding over 1,000 new titles by the weeks end, they are expanding their library by over 300%. This addition will include blockbusters, family films, Paramount Plus exclusives and virtually any genre you can think of. This major addition could be what exactly Paramount needs to tip consumers who are on the fence about the service.
Among the films being added is the new Paramount Plus exclusive “Infinite,” with Mark Wahlberg. Other notable additions are “Sonic the Hedgehog,” “The Avengers,” “Rocketman,” “Skyfall,” and hundreds more. It will also serve as the streaming home for “A Quiet Place Part II.”
ViacomCBS also said that the streaming service will have over 2,500 titles by the end of this summer. More impressively, Paramount Plus plans to debut original movies every week beginning in 2022.
