Sony Pictures has dropped the debut trailer for their video game movie adaptation of the “Resident Evil” games. While not the first film adaptation of the hit survival horror game series, it is instead a reboot of the cinematic canon. One that looks to be following the video game’s storyline a little bit closer this time around.
The film’s synopsis reads, “Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, a group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.” It seems we’re getting a mashup of “Resident Evil” 1, 2, and maybe a little of 3 in this reboot.
“Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” checks all the right horror movie trailer boxes. We have eerie moments of quiet to build tension, we have jump scares to break said tension, and most importantly of all, we have a creepy version of a hit pop song playing in the background. The trailer did what it needed to do and should make skeptical fans at the very least, a little less so.
“Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City” will be opening only in theaters on Nov 24, 2021.
