As the next leading man to follow in the footsteps of Affleck, Bale, and Keaton, Pattinson sets himself apart by going rogue. Matt Reeves‘ take on Gotham city has been nothing short of gritty, and the vigilante is no exception.
We can expect to see a jam-packed cast with Zoe Kravitz, Colin Ferrell, and Andy Serkis to name a few. But Warner Bros.’ recent release of an updated synopsis focuses on the Bat himself.
“THE BATMAN is an edgy, action-packed thriller that depicts Batman in his early years, struggling to balance rage with righteousness as he investigates a disturbing mystery that has terrorized Gotham. Robert Pattinson delivers a raw, intense portrayal of Batman as a disillusioned, desperate vigilante awakened by the realization that the anger consuming him makes him no better than the ruthless serial killer he’s hunting”Warner Bros.
The trailers emphasize this darker take on a complex and disturbed character who allows his need for vengeance to fuel him. Batman has always tried to discern himself from the criminals he hunts. We’ve seen him pushed to the limits before.
But there’s something about this description that hints towards this version of Batman leaning into his killer instincts. The depiction of the Riddler’s edgy and zodiac-inspired costuming makes it clear he’s not messing around.
Whereas Jim Carrey added a whimsical nature to the Riddler, this Batman movie portrayal will pull no punches. From the color scheme to Gotham’s design, it’s clear Matt Reeves wanted to get to the darkest depths of the character.
Only four months until ‘”The Batman” premieres, and we’ll really see how moody Pattinson can get.
